Ensemble BPM to perform Andriessen’s Anaïs Nin

Following BPM’s critically acclaimed production of Steve Reich and Beryl Korot’s Three Tales in 2010, BPM will become the first group to perform Louis Andriessen’s video opera since the London Sinfonietta’s UK premiere back in 2011.

The two performances on 18 and 19 August 2012 will take place as part of the award-winning Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival at the Riverside Studios on the banks of the Thames.

The production will feature a new Anaïs: the brilliant Phoebe Haines. The work was originally written for the unique instrument of Cristina Zavalloni, a long-standing collaborator of Andriessen, and the only interpreter of Anaïs to date.

We know from Anaïs’ journals that she was a woman of many faces – Andriessen’s multimedia piece provides a unique opportunity to explore this immensely complex psyche.
